One World in a New World with Dr. Terrence Johnson – Co Founder, Counselor, Innovator
As a young boy, Terrence found that people sought his counsel for some reason, including adults. His career in counseling and education fit perfectly into that flow. His story bridges the inner and outer worlds with great reflection from his tenure in mental health with a high degree of empathy.
Learning how to read at an early age, he grew found of storytelling. His curiosity and a penchant for nature walks with his grandmother as a kid also fueled his love for storytelling. His activity as a youth might sound very familiar to some and invites inquiry for those who’ve been seeking their own connection.
Education was big in his home growing up. Schoolwork came first, and there was no playing until it was done daily. T speaks to the importance of education and Zen offers that critical thinking is
America’s national deficit today. He started a college scholarship fund at his church to help give back to the community.
Not only reading, writing was essential for him as well. He shares a bit about his grandfather and inspiration to share his story that he got from reading an article about an elder in their community. T admits writing can be cathartic and transformative, especially in deeply meaningful pieces.
You’ll love how he honored his father and the considerations that came afterward. Terrence says noticing the version of you before the passing is different than the version of you resulting after the event. It comes from the growth in processing it, and time.
T talks about dreams that have offered so much to his life and understanding as well, especially after his father’s passing. The conversation drifts into reflections of how those who’ve passed have ways to communicate across the boundary of the physical world. Zen shares a personal story about the passing of his adoptive father you’ll find touching and transformative.
The connected conversations draws upon the dots of communication that includes the ways to include the various learning styles, transferring the visual snapshots that turn into wonderful journeys. T notes the process of writing being a way to engage in a kind of progressive storytelling that offers insight and understanding through the construction of the message and scenery used to deliver it.
The scenery of he conversation continues to offer wonderful views along with some insights that came from decades of counseling, empathic resonance with deep sensitivity and unexpected discoveries of self-awareness and personal growth that are truly inspiring.
